As part of the 2014 Green Summer youth volunteer campaign, the youth of Gia Lai Electricity Company has implemented a program to provide energy-saving lightbulbs for households in four communes. By the end of the program, 1,150 U-shaped compact energy-saving bulbs had been distributed.

Head of the Planning and Technical Department of Phu Thien district’s electricity branch of Gia Lai Electricity Company Pham Van Nguong who directly guided the company’s youth as they replaced the bulbs and promoted  energy-saving awareness in Ayun Ha Commune said “"This is one of the activities of a program on energy efficiency that the company signed with the provincial trade union. In Phu Thien District, trade unionists and youths came to each household to check and replace all incandescent bulbs with compact ones, helping people save on their electricity bills”.

Pham Van Nguong also said many households in Ayun Ha and Ia Sol communes still used incandescent bulbs which consumed a lot of power (especially those ethnic minorities). However, they still had to use them as they do not have good material conditions for replacements.
Kpah Nim, in Plok village was very glad when electricity workers came. She said: “My family has also heard of this program but we still had to use them as there were no other alternatives. From now on, my family can make some minor savings on our electricity costs”.
Apart from Kpah Nim’s household, many other families also expressed gratitude to the staff of Phu Thien District’s Electricity branch for their enthusiasm and consideration to guide the local people on power using principles. The activists didn’t mind unfavorable conditions they faced during the campaign.
Siu Kek, who works in the Phu Thien branch, said  “I see that this is a very meaningful deed, especially for those in difficult circumstances and the ethnic minorities. Every time when I finished replacing one bulb, I felt happy when I saw the smiles on their faces.”
In the coming time, apart from free energy saving bulbs for people in other localities, the youths and trade unionists of Gia Lai Electricity Company have continued with other propaganda programs to help local people benefit from energy efficiency and safety.
