This year, 11 Vietnamese teams from top universities and colleges will attend the competition. In particular, 7 teams including AutoUTC (University of Communications and Transport), HaUI AUTO ( Hanoi University of Industry), CNG.HUST (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), CKD-SSL (HCM City University of Technology and Education),  CVCT (The Central Vocational College of Transport), CKC BLUE WHALE ( Cao Thang Vocational College), HVCT (HCM Vocational College of Technology) will compete in  base model category.

The other four are ICE.HUST (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), CKĐ-MIN10 (HCM City University of Technology and Education) and LH-EST and LH - GOLD ENERGY (Lac Hong University) will compete in urban model category. 

Vietnamese teams will face 100 opponents from over 16 nations of Asia, Middle East and Africa. Accordingly, each team will introduce their homemade energy saving vehicles which will run on Malina’s roads. Prize will go to the vehicle that travels the furthest distance with only 1 liter of fuel. 

In SEM 2015, CKD-MIN10 from HCM City University of Technology and Education won second prize in Base model - Gasoline category as their car traveled 568 km using 1 liter of fuel.
